Product Certification of Low Voltage Equipment in the UAE
Published on
Certification is a mandatory procedure for the sale and sale of goods in the UAE. Conducted by independent third partyorganizations approved by MOIAT, focusing on compliance with standards or government regulations. The process includes audit, testing, documentation review and measurement methods provided for a specific product category.
If you have not previously accessed these procedures, you may have problems accessing them due to unfamiliarity with basic certification standards. Especially if you want to enter the market with your own product and conduct legal business abroad.
Certification is confirmation of the process of compliance of products, services or management systems with government standards or requirements. Goal: to ensure that products or services meet quality standards and are safe for the end consumer. This approach is critical to ensuring safety, quality and compliance with national legislation.
Certification of goods in the UAE is required for:
- Compliance with regulatory requirements. Entrepreneurs and businessmen must comply with the regulations established in the Emirates. A certificate confirming that the imported goods comply with them.
- Consumer protection. Uncertified products may pose a high risk to the health and safety of consumers.
- Participation in tenders and government procurement.
- Facilitation of customs procedures.
- Increasing the trust of consumers and partners. The presence of a certificate indicates the high quality of products and the level of support of the company.
The UAE pays special attention to compliance with the law. Therefore, the lack of certification entails direct legal consequences: a ban on sales, recall of products to the market, fines and administrative consequences.
How is certification carried out in the UAE: general standards
The standardization of products and services in the UAE is carried out by Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT)
MOIAT is the national body for standardization and metrology. The organization develops and approves standards, provides accurate measurements and manages technical regulations. Main value: consumer rights and safety. To confirm compliance, MOIAT uses the ECAS table - Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme.
Electronic certification
Technical equipment and electronics are included in the list of goods with mandatory certification. Regulatory control measures in the field of electrical and technical safety, energy efficiency and environmental protection were carried out in 2015. The steps were implemented through a national program like the Emirates Conformity Assessment System, i.e. ECAS.
Testing consumer protection needs from electric shock. Danger arises in the event of overvoltage and malfunction.
Established UAE/GSO/IEC standards ensure that equipment is safe to use. They determine the equipment category and potential risks, define minimum protection requirements, and conduct tests to determine system functionality.
How to get a certificate in electronics
Manufacturers, companies, importers and distributors with a UAE trade license can apply to participate in the exhibition. Otherwise, it will be shown upon receipt of the document.
What stages does the process of obtaining a certificate include:
- Registration and submission of applications on the official website of MOIAT. Log in and fill out an application;
- Attach the necessary documents: completed application, technical description of the product, drawings and specifications, test results, laboratory reports, declarations of conformity, production quality documents. You may be asked to provide additional technical documents;
- Pay the fee. You can also do this on the website;
- Wait for the documents to be reviewed. The average period for consideration and issuance of a certificate is from 1 to 3 months.
Electrical equipment can be labeled with an Energy Efficiency Standard to certify that your product meets current energy efficiency requirements.
For some products under the Emirates Quality Mark (EQM) Scheme on-site factory auditis mandatory. The Third-party conformity assessment body inspects the production site, the availability and performance of equipment, and conditions.
The validity period of the license from the date of issue is 1 year for ECAS and 3 years for EQM Certification. The document must be updated and rechecked annually.
